THE GOSPEL
The Gospel is the good news about Jesus Christ—which necessitates bad news.
The Bible makes clear that we have spent our lives suppressing the truth about God and running from Him (see Romans 1:18-20). We have trusted our own thoughts rather than God’s thoughts and promises in His Word. Because of this tragic reality, God has justly condemned us—having belittled His character, goodness, and glory. This is the unsettling bad news against mankind.
It is by understanding the bad news that we can fully appreciate the glory of the good news—the Gospel.
The good news of the Gospel is that Christ has come as a man, lived a perfect life in our place, died a sacrificial death in our place, and has gone back to the Father to intercede for us and await His second coming (see Romans 3:21-22a). We needed His perfect life because it produced the righteousness which we lacked before God. We needed His sacrificial death to free us from the power of the sin that captivates us. It is through faith, believing God’s promises for us in Christ, that we enter into God’s saving grace—believing His forgiveness, power, righteousness, and wisdom are available to us in Christ.
